How AMCs Operate

There are two primary models for working with AMCs:

Full Service

Most associations select a full service AMC model, where AMCs deliver turnkey management for all operating disciplines (such as membership, marketing, meetings, financial administration, policy development, legal, risk management, etc.) and all daily operations (including staffing, office space, equipment, contracts, technologies, member services, etc.). AMCs work with Boards to select an executive director who best combines association management expertise, leadership skills, knowledge of the members’ industry or profession and other qualities to align with the specific needs and priorities of the association. This person owns the relationship between your Board and the AMC.

Outsourced Services

At times, some stand-alone associations need extra support in one or more areas of association operations. In these cases, AMCs offer staffing and resources to fulfill your specific requirements. You can contract with an AMC to deliver services for:

  • Membership services
  • Strategic planning
  • Meetings, conventions, expositions and trade shows
  • Financial management and administration
  • Legal counsel
  • Education and certification
  • Public relations and marketing
  • Web communications and social media
  • Policy and lobbying
  • Publications
  • Research
  • International services
