European Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology Exhibition
Featured prototype vehicles from DaimlerChrysler, BMW, Fiats, Honda, and more
Brussels (October 19, 2006) – From October 4 through 6, the European Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Platform ("HFP") held the Third Annual General Assembly Drive and Ride, a prototype exhibition featuring hydrogen-powered innovations from such companies as DaimlerChrysler, Honda and Rolls Royce. Alongside Janez Potocnik, Commissioner for Science and Research of the European Commission; international representatives from Japan, Russia and the US Department of Energy; CEOs; politicians and leading hydrogen experts test-drove a wide variety of hydrogen prototype vehicles including cars, buses and boats.
"This exhibition well illustrates the progress made in hydrogen and fuel cell technology over the last ten years," said Commissioner Potocnik, emphasizing the importance of cooperation within the sector to stimulate research in this field by working together. "We can tackle technology bottle necks, raise public awareness and appreciation, address safety issues and develop standards that can ensure that technology developed in Europe is used not just here but around the world."
Organized by association management firm Kellen Europe, the prototype exhibit was free to the public, but the 3-day event also included multiple presentations and a panel discussion featuring executives from such companies as Shell Hydrogen, Rolls Royce Fuel Systems and Linde Gas for more than 600 registered, corporate attendees.
Exhibitors look to broaden the scope of activities even further next year as HFP continues to achieve support and build momentum. "We foresee an investment of more than five billion Euros in the next ten years in hydrogen and fuel cell technologies, including publicly funded projects," said Herbert Kohler, newly elected Chair of the European Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology Platform and Vice-President of DaimlerChrylser. "This will in turn benefit energy security, the environment and European competitiveness."
The European Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology Platform (HFP) facilitates and accelerates the development and deployment of cost-competitive, world class European hydrogen and fuel cell-based energy systems and component technologies for applications in transport, stationary and portable power.
