
Patricia Appelhans Joins SmithBucklin as Deputy Executive Director of the International Business Brokers Association
CHICAGO, Oct. 24 /PRNewswire/ – SmithBucklin, the world's largest association management company, announced today that Patricia Appelhans has joined the company as an Association Executive serving as Deputy Executive Director of the International Business Brokers Association (IBBA). In her new role, Appelhans will work out of SmithBucklin's Chicago office to manage the association's new strategic initiatives, including vendor-related programs and services, its credentialing program and international outreach.
Founded in 1983, IBBA is the largest international non-profit association operating exclusively for the benefit of business brokers, intermediaries and firms engaged in the various aspects of business brokerage and mergers and acquisitions. IBBA has more than 1,800 cooperative members across 19 countries and continents including Canada, Mexico, Asia, Europe, Australia and the United States.

Prior to joining SmithBucklin, Appelhans was CEO of the Girl Scouts-Sybaquay Council Inc., where she was instrumental in the success of a pilot program that focused on the recruitment and advancement of Hispanic mentors and volunteers. Called L.A.V.A. (Latina Adult Volunteer Advancement), during a three-year period the program helped generate a 54 percent increase in the recruitment of Latina girls and a 194 percent increase in the number of Latina volunteers. Appelhans also spearheaded the Girl Scouts Latina Conference, hosted by the Sybaquay Council in 2003, and served as the Chairman of the
Northern Illinois Girl Scout Realignment Committee, which developed a jurisdictional proposal realigning four councils in northern Illinois.
Previously, Appelhans served as executive director of the Ceilings & Interior Systems Construction Association and the National Association of Bond
Lawyers and as Associate Executive Director of the National Roofing Contractors Association.
Appelhans holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in criminal justice and political science from the University of Illinois at Chicago and a Juris Doctorate from Northern Illinois University College of Law. She is a member of the Chicago Bar Association, Rotary International and Association Forum, for which she has served as chairman of the board.
