WASHINGTON, D.C. (July 10, 2012) -- Pam Walker, Director of Government Affairs for AMR Management Services, was recently elected to the board of directors for Women in Government Relations (WGR), a nonpartisan association for government relations professionals.
"AMR is proud of Pam's election to the WGR board," said John Ruffin, President and CEO of AMR. "We encourage our employee involvement and leadership in professional organizations like WGR. As association management professionals, it's beneficial for us to be engaged with our professional societies, not just for development opportunities, but also to better understand the member's perspective for our clients."
Walker leads government relations efforts for the National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO) from AMR's office in Washington D.C.
Walker began attending WGR events in 1997. She became a member in 2001 and has served on various task forces during her tenure. Since 2009 she has served as co-chair for Women in Government Relations Telecommunication &Technology Task Force.
"WCR offers me the opportunity to gain knowledge to help promote my client's advocacy goals on Capitol Hill, with federal agencies and other associations," Walker said. "I develop key contacts who I can work with on future legislative and regulatory issues. In addition, I am able to enhance my knowledge of the government relations arena, which will provide an ongoing benefit to NASCIO."
Through her leadership and involvement, Walker hopes WGR will improve relationship development between junior and senior government affairs professionals.
"I want WGR to be the number one organization to help further the progress of women in the government affairs arena."
