Full Rooms, Full Hearts: What Milwaukee Taught Us About Why We Gather
Full Rooms, Full Hearts: What Milwaukee Taught Us About Why We Gather

Last month, more AMC professionals than ever descended upon Milwaukee for AMCs Engaged, our summer meeting, and set new attendance records! This alone would have made for a great few days, but that wasn’t what truly impacted me. What stayed with me was the energy in the room, the kind you can only get when our community gathers to share their experience and knowledge with each other all in one place, all at the same time.
We also paused to honor the individuals and organizations doing the work that raises the bar for our entire AMC industry through our exciting Awards of Excellence gala. This celebration reminds me of how much talent lives inside our membership, and this year was no exception.
If you want a real temperature check on what AMCs Engaged meant to the people who were there, don't take my word for it. Here's what some of our members posted themselves:
“Three days. Countless conversations. More ideas than fit in my notebook. Just home from AMC Engaged in Milwaukee, energized by the people, perspectives, and possibilities shaping our industry." - Carrie Hartin, President, MCI USA
"The real power of AMC Institute Engaged Event isn't just in the sessions or the strategies shared; it's in the collective wisdom of the people in the room." - Akshar Patel, VP of Strategic Partnerships & Alliances, eShow
"From the outside, it can look like AMC work is mostly marketing. Inside, it's a much bigger story: people across every operational function, working together to help our clients and their industries thrive." - Ashley Boger, Senior Association Manager, Canopy Management Group
You'll notice none of our members mention a single session title, and that's not an accident, but it's not the whole story either. When we ask attendees why they come to AMCI meetings, networking tops the list almost every time: 89% named it as a primary reason for attending this year, with learning about trends and innovations right behind at 79%, and professional development at 50%. But talk to anyone who was in Milwaukee and they'll tell you those numbers aren't in competition with each other. The best conversations in the hallway started because of what happened in the session beforehand: attendees debated a speaker's framework over coffee, compared notes on a new idea at dinner, and left with as many fresh perspectives as new colleagues. That's the real value our content committees build into every AMCI meeting: education strong enough to talk about, shared in a room full of people who know exactly what you mean.
If Milwaukee reminded you what it feels like to be in a room full of people who get it, you're in luck: we have two more chances to feel that again in 2026, plus a few resources you may not even know exist.
First, mark your calendar for our Regional Meeting, September 22-23, 2026, hosted by IHG and the Crowne Plaza Atlanta Perimeter at Ravinia in Atlanta, GA. Our content committee has been hard at work building another year of peer-driven learning and meaningful connection. If you're an AMC leader looking to strengthen your bench, this is the kind of room where you walk out with ideas and insights you can put to work immediately. Learn more and register by visiting the Regional Meeting page on AMCI’s website.
Second, save the date for our 2027 Annual Meeting, February 16-18, at the JW Marriott Turnberry Resort & Spa in Miami, FL, and consider helping shape it. We asked AMCs Engaged attendees what opportunities and challenges they see ahead over the next two to three years, and the same themes surfaced repeatedly. On the opportunity side: AI, whether it's "friend or foe," new and hybrid delivery models, fractional and integrated staffing structures, and growth into higher-value strategic services like governance and advisory work. On the challenge side: talent; recruiting it, retaining it, and developing the next generation by keeping pace with AI and technology change, and demonstrating value to clients who expect more for less. If you have the tools, ideas, or hard-won lessons to help our industry navigate what's next, I encourage you to submit a proposal. The Call for Proposals closes on September 10, and you can submit your proposal here.
And finally, a confession: I frequently hear from members who didn't realize just how much AMCI already offers them, things like our Benchmarking Tool, the Digital Marketing Tool Kit, and our Certificate and Specialist programs for professional advancement. Consider this your invitation to get in the know. Join us for a free webinar, Unlock Your AMCI Membership: Tools, Programs & What's New, on Wednesday, September 2 at 2:00 PM ET. Whether you've been a member for years or you have just joined, this is your chance to make sure you're getting the full value of your AMCI membership. You can register here.
If you want to know more about any of these, or have another question, please feel free to reach out. We are happy to help.
Milwaukee reminded us of why we show up for each other. Let's keep showing up!
