The AMC Institute Accredited Executive Leadership Forum will be held at the Hyatt Regency Chicago on Friday, August 17, 2018 from 1:00 - 5:00 PM.  This year's event will feature Meagan O’Brien and Shad Kunkle, our facilitators from Second City Works, who will use the art of improvisation to master agility and adapting to the ever-changing business climate and client demands.

Improvisation is the art of creating scenes based on audience suggestions. Many of the tools that improvisers use onstage to be successful have offstage applications in the real world and, more specifically, in the business world. A Second City Works program introduces participants to the principles improvisers use to be effective communicators, collaborators, and co-creators with their audiences and each other. Whether it's with a customer, a colleague, a manager, or a direct report, these skills will help teams to navigate difficult conversations, build empathy and rapport, and problem solve using an improviser mindset. Second City Works' training is experiential in nature. Participants engage in a series of paired and full-group exercises that encourage them to interact and learn from the experience. After each exercise, facilitators take time to discuss what happened and note discoveries, challenges, and practical applications. The sessions are engaging and often described as both fun and impactful - attendees go back to their desks with new perspective on how to approach their day-to-day communication.

This session is eligible for 4.0 CAE hours under Domain 2: Leadership; Sub domain D: Interpersonal Skills and Group Facilitation

Shad Kunkle is an actor, improv comedian, and communications professional with more than a decade of experience on stage and screen. He has performed with Chicago’s famed theater, The Second City, for more than six years, appearing in productions including South Side of Heaven, What the Tour Guide Didn’t Tell You: A Chicago Revue, and Sex in the Second City: iLove. He also toured the country with The Second City’s Blue Company. With The Second City Works, which works with more than 400 companies each year, he is a top Trainer, Facilitator, Host, and Performer.

Kunkle honed his craft at ComedySportz and iO Chicago, where he currently performs with long-running improv shows Carl and The Passions and the Armando Diaz Experience. He also does voice over and commercial work, appearing in spots for Walmart and Long John Silver’s, among others. Kunkle loves his wife, Kate, their daughters, Anna and Winifred, and their belligerently disruptive cat, Azul.

Meagan O’Brien began her career as a mechanical engineer working in the aerospace industry, and in the evenings she studied and performed improv.  Following her passion, she quit her job and toured with The Second City National Touring Company.  Once she had her fill of long van rides, it was a natural transition to move into the Second City Works branch.  She has been facilitating, hosting, and acting for the past 10 years, merging her knowledge of the workplace with her improv training.
